Mobile Number Portability in Nigeria, How Does it Works?

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is the new service in Nigeria by telecoms operators that allows mobile subscribers to change their Service providers without changing their mobile number. For instance it allows subscribers to move from Glo to Airtel while the customer retains his number including the prefix 0805 or any other prefix.

Subscribers will only be able to port within GSM operators and CDMA subscribers would only be able  to
port within CDMA networks.

The number of times a subscriber ported does not matter as the original network the number was assigned to will remain the block holder.

How Does it Works in Nigeria

A port request is initiated by the Recipient Operator, on request by a subscriber currently being serviced by the Donor Operator.

Combine with the Recipient Operator's request, the customer is required to send "PORT" to 3232.
Porting requests is free and must be completed within two working days.

Port request cannot be holted or cancelled once a subscriber has sent "PORT" to 3232.

Prepaid customers porting out of a donor will loose all existing airtime balance on their lines during the port process.

Postpaid customer will need to settle all outstanding bills, and a final bill may be given even after the port is completed.

A subscriber that is porting out from a Donor must have previously register the SIM with the Donor, the registration details is required for the process.

Multiple requests for a single line is not allowed.

After the port process is completed the subscriber must stick with the recipient donor for minimum of 90 days before another request may be initiated.

A customer must physically present in a recipient (Showrooms, Authorized Dealers or designated Port Request Outlets).
